A little further afield, you'll find a wide variety of attractions and activities to suit all ages and tastes. From gardens and wildlife, to castles and palaces, walks and fishing to riding and watersports, we have it all on our doorstep for you to enjoy, so here are just a few suggestions to whet your appetite:
Attractions: Cluny House Gardens (Strathtay): a plant-lover's paradise with woodland walks and plenty of red squirrels. Blair Castle (Blair Atholl): turrets, attic tours and the magnificent Hercules Garden. Stirling Castle (Stirling): visit the vaults, soak up the history and marvel at the Great Tapestry of Scotland. Atholl Country Life Museum (Blair Atholl): get a taste of how life was lived in the past in Perthshire. Glen Lyon (nr. Aberfeldy): Scotland's longest (and most remote) glen.
Activities: Highland Safaris (Aberfeldy): Off-road safaris and wildlife spotting. Active Kids Adventure Park (Stanley): indoor and outdoor fun for children all year round. Loch of the Lowes (Dunkeld): see wildlife close up from a hide and take part in their nature-related activities. Go Ape (Aberfoyle): see the world from the treetops and whizz down a zip wire! Birks Cinema (Aberfeldy): all--year programme of films/events for adults & children.
Other towns and villages worthy of a visit are Blairgowrie to the east and the conservation village of Kenmore situated at the head of Loch Tay to the west. Aberfeldy has an excellent selection of independent shops, cafes, galleries and a bookshop and additional retail therapy is available at the House of Bruar, a few miles north of Pitlochry.
Day trips can also be made to Inverness (north), Oban and Fort William (west), Braemar and Royal Deeside (north east), and the Trossachs and Loch Katrine (south west).
